Origin Story

Laura is originally an international artist from The Netherlands, who grew up in Yemen, Costa Rica, and South Africa. She’s currently (Jan, 2024) based on the Gold Coast in Australia and available for tattoos, commissions and exhibitions. Ever since she could waddle around she’s wanted to be an artist, and has been completely self-taught from the start. She’s formally trained in Psychology, with a master’s in Pedagogical Sciences. She combines psychology with art in her private art lessons, where she tackles topics she’s struggled with like perfectionism and the inner critic by painting them into life and making them more tangible and separate from the self that’s observing.

The Art

Her art is best described as “erotic plant lady art” at the moment, where that is a big theme in most of her work. Her artwork often looks quite ethereal and psychedelic, dreamy and surreal. She draws a lot of inspiration from her dream life, as well as her waking life as a self-proclaimed plant addict. Her favourite medium is the underrated ballpoint pen you probably have on your desk. She likes to do mixed media work where she combines markers, highlighters, and various types of paint. She likes to push the boundaries and draw digitally as a graphic designer, draw on ukuleles, paint on walls and windows with Posca pens, spray paint her bicycle, and do sculpture work with clay and rock. She’s also been handpoke tattooing since 2017.
